President's November Message

Todd Williams | Published on 11/23/2022

Good morning and happy Holiday season.

Earlier this month at the General meeting, we had guest speaker Ken Poole from Kan Klassics Rods. He gave a demo on how he makes custom fly rods from bamboo. I found this very informative.  The fly rods sell for over a thousand dollars each and Kan Klassics has been in business since 1988. Ken also showed some of his custom carving he has completed on gourds.  He is very talented.

Our laser committee is still looking for a [CNC] laser that is good quality and will meet our needs.

We have also purchased 6 new lathes for the shop and should have those installed and ready for use in a few weeks.

The TNT SIG will be working on building a karma box for one of the UNR housing units. If you’re looking to improve your skills on building a box, this would be a good time to come to the TNT Sig.

We have some great news about our program for the Veterans.  It’s been approved and we should have our first class after the new year.  Thank you Mary for all your hard work.

November has been a crazy time for our Toy SIG.  They have been working extra days and extra hard to finish up the last of the toys for the big distribution day of 11/30/2022. I can only imagine the joy and happiness that will now come to so many young children. Thank you, Donna, and all the elves for your hard work throughout the year.

Our new web site is up and running and we are working on getting more information online. The calendar is full of information about what is going on in the shop. The classification section is where we all can post items for sale as long it’s woodworking related. Each member also could post photos in their own gallery to show their work.

We will not have a general meeting in December but our annual meeting will be at 5:30pm January 7th  at the South Valley Library 15650-A Wedge Parkway. Please plan to attend.

Let’s make sawdust!
